NICDC an autonomous body under Ministry of Commerce & Industry, DPIIT runs the flagship National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), aimed at developing Greenfield Industrial Smart Cities across India to make it a competitive manufacturing destination at par with the global standards. NICDC's mission is to transform India into a global manufacturing and export hub, drive economic growth, and support the Government of India's "Make in India" and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives. Through its industrial smart cities, NICDC seeks to build a future-ready, globally competitive industrial ecosystem. NICDC is mandated to undertake project development activities for investment regions / industrial areas / economic regions / industrial nodes and townships / integrated manufacturing clusters / stand-alone projects / early bird projects for various industrial corridor projects and assist various State Governments.

Creation of state-of-the-art world class infrastructure to promote local commerce, enhance investment, generate employment and attain sustainable development.

The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) was incorporated on January 7, 2008, initially as the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC). It was later rebranded to NICDC to reflect its expanded mandate of developing multiple industrial corridors across India. Envisioned by Shri Amitabh Kant, NICDC draws inspiration from the world-class development models of the Tokyo-Osaka and Boston-Washington D.C. corridors, adopting a transformative corridor approach to drive industrialization and regional economic growth. The corporation's efforts have been given significant impetus under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which focuses on multimodal connectivity, integrated planning, and accelerated infrastructure development.

NICDC smart cities offer ‘Plug & Play’ infrastructure with features like 24-hour power supply, potable and recycled water, effluent treatment plants, multi-modal connectivity, gas pipelines, integrated city planning, and robust telecom networks. Benefits include single-window clearance, E-land management, anchor investor discounts, flexible payment plans, and incentives from Union and State Governments, all designed to create a seamless industrial ecosystem.

NICDC's smart cities are at the forefront of sustainable urban development, integrating cutting-edge innovations to align with global best practices. By addressing critical elements such as energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and eco-friendly transportation, these cities are redefining sustainability in urban and industrial ecosystems. Blanket environmental clearance is secured in advance for swift commencement of commercial production.  Only green and clean businesses are permitted, prohibiting industries categorized as red or pollutive.  NICDC cities feature an underground power network system for industrial use, with seven underground integrated services provided to each plot.  ICT-based infrastructure optimizes utility and resource use, reducing environmental impact and enhancing liability.  SCADA system is used to monitor and control infrastructure, ensuring availability of reliable power and other services. Through these initiatives, NICDC cities are setting a benchmark for sustainable urban development in India and beyond, creating eco-friendly, efficient, and livable spaces that support economic growth while safeguarding the environment for future generations.
